EHS recipients earn Hawk Tank grants for literacy training and community engagement

Two College of Education, Health and Society representatives were among the eight winners of ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ’s 2025 Hawk Tank competition, hosted by the MIAMI Women Giving Circle.

Sarah Watt, associate professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, received $18,500 of funding for Unlocking the Joy of Reading through Structured Literacy Training, which prepares future teachers to support ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈs with dyslexia using the Orton-Gillingham method.

Isaura Souza, a ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ in the Fostering Just Communities certificate program, earned a $20,000 grant for Experiential Learning for Miami Students and Cincinnati Youth, a project that connects Miami ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈs with Cincinnati youth to collaborate on research and action addressing community issues.
