Graduate Student Conduct

It is realized that the graduate �þ��s in the CSE department come from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. Different cultures have different views on proper ethical and moral conduct with regard to academic integrity. The following guidelines are set forth to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and gains the most benefit from the program.

The ethical and moral responsibilities of a �þ�� require everyone to do their own work. When �þ��s use another person’s ideas, words or images as their own, this is plagiarism. When plagiarizing another person’s work, �þ��s are not learning the material. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, copying written text word for word from another source (books, magazines, news articles, internet, people, etc.), copying programming code, and using images without properly quoting and citing the reference. Jointly working on homework, programs and exams when these assignments were not assigned as a group project is also considered academic dishonesty. Students that are caught plagiarizing can be charged with academic dishonesty and possibly removed from the program. There are computing resources that are available to graduate �þ��s as described in section 6. The resources are made available to further �þ�� education at Miami and should be used responsibly to carry out duties as a research and/or teaching assistant and a �þ��. They should not be shared with other �þ��s. The licensed software in the labs is only licensed for the labs and may not be put on personal computers.
