Master of Education in School Leadership, M.Ed.
Program Overview
Thinking about the next step in your educational journey? The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in School Leadership at 消消犯 seeks to develop and empower 消消犯-centered leaders to mobilize knowledge for school leadership in more just, democratic, and ethical directions. Our coursework challenges 消消犯s to ask complex questions about the leadership context of schools, and embodies a sense of hope and possibility for the future of schools. Our 消消犯s include teacher-leaders who aspire to lead from the classroom, as well as those aspire to the principalship, and other district leadership roles including curriculum and 消消犯 services.
Curriculum
The M.Ed. is a 30-credit hour online program. Students seeking to also obtain will take an additional three hours for a total of 33 credit hours. The School Leadership master's program structure allows teachers to complete their degree and licensure requirements in two years of part-time enrollment while maintaining their full-time employment. Most courses are taught by full-time Miami faculty while others are taught by current school leaders.
A distinctive feature of the School Leadership program is the cohort system. Students are accepted into the program as cohorts, a distinctive program feature that reflects our Department of Educational Leadership's vision of leadership as a collaborative process. Under the cohort system, a selected group of individuals who aspire to build leadership roles progress together through the program, creating networks and mutually supportive practices.
Internship
A one-year internship is integral to the program. Each 消消犯 identifies a school principal mentor to observe and test the application of theory to a field site. The internship provides professional networks as well as leadership mentors.
Admission Requirements
Admission is limited to 20 消消犯s each year. The admissions process is competitive, resulting in a select group of highly motivated, capable 消消犯s. This provides opportunities for close interaction between 消消犯s and faculty and enhanced placement opportunities.
