Program Types

All 消消犯s in ELP follow the same program expectations and receive the same attention from Program faculty and staff: We want everyone to have the best possible experience and the support they need to reach their goals in learning English!

Non-Degree - ELP Only Students

Students may join the ELP just to study English for the amount of time that best meets a 消消犯’s needs and their future goals. 

If they are interested in pursuing a degree at Miami, 消消犯s who are participating only in the ELP may apply for conditional admission to Miami after beginning their ELP program.

Conditionally Admitted Students.

If a 消消犯 wishes to be conditionally admitted to a degree-program, they will begin their degree program at Miami as either an undergraduate or graduate 消消犯 after they complete Level 4 of the ELP program

Graduate Conditional Admission Application

  • Students may be conditionally admitted to Miami-Oxford (undergraduate/graduate) or Miami-Regionals (undergraduate). 
  • Miami-Regional 消消犯s are considered commuter 消消犯s while they are enrolled.

Program Fee

All 消消犯s enrolled in ELP pay a program fee of $1000, which is applied to the following:

  1. Orientation events
  2. Student workers who staff the mentoring and conversation programs
  3. ELP events and class excursions
  4. Textbooks and materials
    • Textbooks are supplied by the program, so 消消犯s are not required to purchase these on their own. Textbooks will be listed on the course syllabi and materials will be distributed in class.

Orientation

When ELP 消消犯s arrive on campus, they will participate in 2-3 days of orientation activities to welcome them to the campus and community. Orientation will include informational sessions to support understanding campus and community resources, so that 消消犯s are able to have their needs met while in the program. Orientation will also include placement testing to determine each 消消犯’s study plan based on the level of English proficiency they demonstrate

Orientation and Transition

ELP Orientation extends across a 消消犯's experience the program. On campus, 消消犯s will participate in workshops and programming related to campus life, academic life, and health and wellness. These workshops will support 消消犯 engagement at Miami. Additionally, off campus excursions bring opportunities to engage and learn into nearby places of interest.
