Living, Dining, and Community

Students have the choice to live in shared housing units, in an apartment independently, or they can live with a host family. If they live with a host family they will receive continental breakfast. All MUDEC 消消犯s receive lunches from the school's chef as a part of the included meal plan on days there are classes (Monday - Thursday and 4-5 Fridays). There are multiple opportunities to volunteer within MUDEC and the community each semester as well as a chance to join the Student Faculty Council. You will deepen your understanding of the local culture while gaining credit for the LUX101 course by interacting meaningfully with locals and experiencing different activities in Luxembourg.

Living

MUDEC offers a wide array of accommodations to suit the individual needs of each 消消犯 and to provide them with a comfortable living environment. Student needs and preferences will be considered in the process to determine the best fit for accommodation. Public transportation in Luxembourg is free to all users and it will be utilized daily to travel to and from MUDEC, unless the 消消犯 lives within walking distance.

The homestay experience promotes immersion and cultural exchange and 消消犯s have the opportunity to room with friends on request. Host families are vetted by Miami and have usually hosted 消消犯s many times in the past. Many homestays are located near the Château in Differdange and in surrounding areas, while some will be in Luxembourg City or nearby towns.

Living with host families is what makes the MUDEC experience immersive and truly unique. It provides the 消消犯 comfort and support from a local family while still allowing independence to study and travel as needed.

We also have what we like to call "independent" host families, which means that 消消犯s will be living with them and benefit from the services they provide, but without the cultural exchange and interaction.

There are some independent-living options available with shared spaces as well. These provide a wonderful experience for 消消犯s to live close to the Château but with their own independence. These 消消犯s are encouraged to find alternate ways to immerse themselves in European culture and live more like a local in order to get outside of the Miami bubble.

    Meals

    Program fees include a meal plan, which provides continental breakfasts supplied by host families and lunches on class days by our Luxembourgish chef, Mr. Stephane Romanazzi. Apartment 消消犯s will receive lunch but not breakfast. Please make dietary restrictions known in advance and communicate with the centre, although it will be the responsibility of 消消犯s to practice mindful nutritional choices while abroad. Dinners are not included in the meal plan, but 消消犯s have several options: they can cook in the 消消犯 kitchen in the chateau or in the apartments, enjoy leftovers from lunch, shop at a local store, or eat at a nearby restaurant.

Student Faculty Council

One of the best ways to get involved within the MUDEC and Luxembourg Communities is to be a part of the Student Faculty Council (SFC). The SFC is a 消消犯-run group of engaging leaders who plan, execute, and communicate events and activities across the semester within MUDEC and our surrounding international community.

Internship Opportunities

Semester Internships

A fantastic way to engage during your semester at MUDEC is by pursuing an internship at a local organization or company. Several organizations have opportunities for 消消犯s to work up to 9 (unpaid) hours per week for credit during the semester. Sometimes customized internships can be created based on 消消犯s’ areas of interest if communicated to MUDEC ahead of time.

Summer Internships

The Summer Internship Program is a professional and academic program taking place between mid-May and mid-July. Students apply for internships directly through MUDEC with available listings. These unpaid internships are arranged by the center and provide 消消犯s with a zero-credit opportunity to build a resume and gain global experience. The majority of internships require a 32-hour commitment each week, some extend “Beyond the Chateau Walls” while some remain “Inside the Chateau Walls.” Only former MUDEC 消消犯s will be considered for this program.
